Chinese contractor Jereh Oil and GasEngineering has completed the engineering, procurement and construction of the Jurassic Production Facilities 5 project (JPF-5) in Kuwait.
Under the 2.7 billion yuan ($373 million)contract signed with Kuwait Oil Company in 2021, Jereh, headquartered in Shandong, has now transitioned into the next phase of the project, being responsible for the operation and maintenance of the facilities.
The 2021 contract entrusted Jereh Oil and Gas Engineering, a subsidiary of the Jereh Group, with the processing and handling of wet and sour hydrocarbon well fluids extracted from the Jurassic field in northern Kuwait.
The facilities encompass a range of crucial components such as crude oil processing systems, production manifolds, gas/oil/water separators, desalination units, crude oil stabilisation equipment, metering systems and export infrastructure.
Additionally, gas processing systems including compression units, sweetening and dehydration facilities, refrigeration units, flares, acidic gas incineration systems, sulfur recovery units and molten sulphur transport units are integral to the project.
Each facility is designed to produce 50,000barrels per day of treated sweet crude and export 150 million cubic feet per day of sweet and dehydrated rich gas, achieved through the processing and handling of sour and wet gas reservoir fluids from the Jurassic fields. The project is also projected to recover 87,000 tonnes of sulphur annually.
Jereh clinched the deal through a competitive tender initiated by KOC in2020, which saw participation from several global contenders including SLB (formerly Schlumberger) and Spetco.
The project is divided into two phases: A26-month period for engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC), followed by a 60-month term for operations and maintenance.
JPF-5 is being implemented on a build-own-operate basis by Jereh, with an option for KOC to buy back.
